On our very first trip to Honduras this grizzly old dude showed up and went with us. That trip was sponsored by Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas, since I would get a church to sponsor each of those medical teams that I took down there. This old dude had been the only medical doctor in a smallContinue reading “Dr. Motes”

The Truck
The Truck The Southern Baptists had an old bob-tail truck on the east coast of Honduras. A Baptist missionary at Progresso, a suburb of San Pedro Sula kept it. I was allowed to use it on most every medical trip that I took to that area of the country. The truck was quite old with fadedContinue reading “The Truck”
Prison Boys
45 minutes north of my house is a large kid’s prison. It is for youth ages 12 through 19. Most are ages 15 through 17. It is called the Gainesville State School, but believe me, it is a very secure prison. It is complete with the high inward curving electric fence and razor wire. EveryContinue reading “Prison Boys”
Heather Penney
You have heard many stories about 9/11, but here is the story of a brave blond girl that you may not have heard about.Ron On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, 1st Lt. Heather Penney arrived at work at Andrews Air Force Base. She grabbed a seat around the briefing table. She was justContinue reading “Heather Penney”
Flight 93
On this 20th Anniversary of 9/11 I thought you would like to read the actual, verbatim transcript of Todd Beamer’s conversation with a GTE operator. He was a passenger on Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania. He was able to get into a pantry on the plane and get ahold of an “air phone”. He andContinue reading “Flight 93”
Onelia
On the second trip taking a medical team to Honduras I worked the projector showing the Jesus film each night, since the Hornstein’s were not there; and relied on the local Baptist missionary in Progresso to help with follow-up. He was a nice fellow who had previously worked in Nicaragua. He had been working thereContinue reading “Onelia”
The Amazing Dr. Youngerman
For many years I took 60+ member medical teams down to very remote parts of Honduras……..doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists, pharmacists and just willing volunteers. We treated multitudes of people who had never seen a doctor or dentist or had access to a pharmacist or optometrist and probably never would for the rest of their life. Continue reading “The Amazing Dr. Youngerman”
Beijing Area Christians
Up until recently Churches and most all Christian activities in China have had almost total freedom. The Chinese government only wanted them to register with the government. There is so much potential unrest in China and so many different ethnic groups with their own “agendas”, this did not seem to be an unreasonable request. ManyContinue reading “Beijing Area Christians”
Russia – a true tale
I just had the overwhelming compulsion that I was supposed to go to Russia. My father and I had sold the Russians several groups of Santa Gertrudis cattle, but I did not need to go there. They always came here for those purchases. Also, in the early 1970’s most people from here were not especiallyContinue reading “Russia – a true tale”
Sa Kaeo II
After we left Khao-I-Dang we did not find out until the next day that the North Vietnamese had probed and killed 30 people right there at the intersection in front of the Khao-I-Dang Camp just after we left. You may recall that I wrote about the man at that camp who had been the onlyContinue reading “Sa Kaeo II”
